Frequently Asked Questions
Buying a bike
-
What advantages does Velocorner bring me?
Many:- Convenience: All important information is stored and secure in one place. All financial transactions are done online. You do not risk negotiations and cash exchange with strangers.
- Only legal bikes: All bikes are subject to theft control. You will never get into legal trouble.
- Love for bicycles: Need advice? We are happy to support you. Is the bike broken? We know competent mechanics.
- You support a good cause: Bicycle theft is a big problem in Switzerland. We actively fight it.
-
Why am I asked to pay immediately?
Immediate payment avoids tedious negotiations with strangers or risky cash exchanges. Our system gives the seller the security they need to reserve the bike for you.
Important: You are not obliged to take the bike. The money stays with us until you have seen, tried and approved the bike. Only then we send the money to the seller. If you do not like the bike, you will get the whole amount back. -
Can I see the bike before I pay for it?
Of course. The fee you have to pay when you make your reservation is only a temporary payment which we place on a neutral account. So technically speaking you are not (yet) buying the bike. When you have seen the bike, tried it and found it good, you confirm the reservation, which is considered payment. Only then we transfer the money to the seller. If you cancel the reservation, we will refund the temporary payment. -
Can I pay cash?
No, we do not support cash payments. There are several reasons for this: Cash payments invite to annoying haggling and bring a lot of unpleasant situations. Often we have heard "The offered bike is already sold, but I have a similar one here." Or: "No, of course it's not stolen." So the renouncement of cash payments is mainly for your safety. -
Who can buy a bike
Anyone over 16 years. -
Are there really no stolen bikes on Velocorner?
As far as we (and all others) can judge: Yes. But: Not all bikes are 100% verified. So look for the Velocorner verification badge. This is only awarded to bikes that we can guarantee are not stolen. All other bikes have been verified, but we cannot judge whether the information given by the seller is true. -
How do you check the bikes?
Mainly via the frame number. We search databases with stolen bikes, including those of the police. (If you want to know more, read this text.) Unfortunately we cannot check all frame numbers. That's why we only give our verification badge to bikes where we are sure. When you hand over the bike, please check if the frame number matches the number given in the advertisement.
Sellers of bikes without frame numbers are obliged to prove their identity. In this way we make it as difficult as possible for thieves. -
What about the guarantees?
Guarantees are granted individually by the sellers and vary from bike to bike. If something is unclear to you, ask the seller for more information. And always make sure that you receive a written confirmation. -
What should I absolutely do when I take over the bike?
- Many used cars have small defects. Make sure that you can live with these defects. Most sellers will not take the bike back. If something is unclear, ask us or read our guide.
- Make sure that all the equipment advertised is included.
- If the bike has a warranty, insist that you receive it in writing.
- Unfortunately, we cannot verify the frame number with a photo for all bikes. Therefore always check if the real frame number matches the one in the advertisement.

Selling a bike
-
What does it cost to sell a bike at velocorner?
The advertisement itself is free of charge. Only when we have found a suitable buyer for your item, we take a sales commission of 6% of the selling price. After the transaction is confirmed, we transfer the proceeds to your bank account. -
Who can sell bikes on Velocorner?
Anyone who owns a bicycle in Switzerland - private and specialized dealers. -
Why can't I additionally try to sell the bike myself?
All bikes offered on Velocorner should actually be available. If you would also offer your bike elsewhere, we would have a lot of "dead advertising". We do not want that.
And: It is not necessary that you advertise your bike directly on another platform. We do that for you. But sharing Velocorner links on social media is not only allowed, but desired. -
I hand my bike over to the new owner. What should I absolutely do?
Remember to have the buyer confirm the handover directly on site. You can do this in the order view. If no one has a smartphone with them, the confirmation will of course be sent from home.
Are things taking too long? Does it smell of problems? Contact us via chat, we will arrange everything for you.

How many bikes can I sell?
You can advertise and sell a maximum of four bikes at the same time. -
How does the process work?
Very simple:
1) You fill out a simple questionnaire so that we can put your ad online.
2) We find a buyer for your bike (you are welcome to help by sharing the Velocorner ad on social media). Your only task is to deliver the bike in the chosen area.
3) We pay you. The money will be on your account within one or two working days.Further information can be found in the guide. -
What do I have to do if the interested party does not like my bike?
Ask her/him to cancel the order. This will make your bike available again. We will make sure that you find another buyer. -
Do I have to deliver the bike anywhere?
You can choose how far you are willing to deliver at your own expense. A greater distance will bring you more interested parties, but you risk having to travel far for nothing. Tip: The more expensive the bike, the bigger the radius should be. But always calculate with the delivery costs. -
When do I get the money?
When you hand over the bike and the buyer confirms this, we release the money. The transfer usually takes no more than one to two working days. -
I handed over the bike but did not receive my money. What should I do?
This has never happened before. If it does happen, please contact us via chat, e-mail or phone. We will deal with the problem as soon as possible. -
Can I be paid cash?
No, this is not possible with Velocorner. We guarantee that you will get your money - without risk, without haggling and without strange "I have no change" situations. -
Why do I have to give the frame number?
Frame numbers are a reliable means of checking whether the bicycle has ever been stolen. You can find more information here. -
What if the bike I sell has been stolen?
Don't panic. If we recognize that your bike has been reported stolen, we will inform you and advise you on how to proceed. -
What happens if I give false information?
We take false frame numbers in particular very seriously. Because one of our main concerns is to stop the trade with stolen bikes. If you give false information, it is tantamount to fraud (even if it is an unintentional mistake). If a buyer complains to us, we may have to ask you to refund the money and take the bike back.
Please make sure to enter all information correctly. -
Verification
-
Why do I need to be verified with my ID?
Verification of the ID is not mandatory in most cases. Only sellers of bicycles without a frame number are obliged to prove their identity. This way we make it as difficult as possible for thieves.
Nevertheless, we recommend all sellers to have themselves verified. The reason: As a buyer you prefer to buy from someone who is not hiding in anonymity. You will receive a Velocorner verification badge if you get checked.
